Brown Dress with Colorful Scarf

Brown Dress with Colorful Scarf

One of my favorite things to do is to swap clothing with people I love. I have this chocolate brown dress that I’ve been loving to wear around the office and I thought that my sister would look amazing in it… and I was right! Paired with a thrifted blue floral scarf, this super cute outfit was created.

I bought this brown dress at one of my favorite thrift stores in the Valley for a few bucks. It’s a solid piece because it has a professional shift dress cut with a nice cut off at mid-leg, so it’s still a little playful.

We paired the piece with this beautiful royal blue scarf that has flowers and a goal threaded detailing within the fabric. The scarf has tassels along each side, which makes it easy to tie around the neck. I found this guy at the same thrift store for $1, and it’s one of my favorite scarves.

Downtown Los Angeles Flower Market

This day my sister and I walked around Downtown Los Angeles to check out the Flower Market and grab lunch at the Grand Central Market. We ventured out to this part of town because my sister has an extra credit assignment for her wine tasting class to smell certain flowers and decide which kind of wine they would pair well with. With notepad in hand we walked about the Flower Market looking for roses, lavender, and geraniums.

Outside the Flower Market were smaller flower vendors who created the most beautiful arrangements with roses in hearts, crosses, and circles. My sister and I were in awe of how beautiful they were. Nature is truly breath taking. Even concentrating on a single rose can take me back to my instinctual roots of admiration for the natural world around me. There’s something amazing about 100+ red, white, and yellow roses pinned together into a colorful work of art.

It was a humble treat for highway focused eyes, that were moments before starved for free parking. It was kind of a sweet, calm moment where we stopped and really admired an aspect of nature that our bodies and minds don’t get enough of each day. How often do you see something full of life and beauty? If you work an office job, these glimpses between a typical commute can really be a sweet touch to your day.

Nature Is Happiness

Admiring flowers is a reminder of how happy nature makes me feel, and why I love to eat my lunch at the park, or walk to buy groceries. Being outside and seeing life is good for me, and that’s a reason why I work so hard to protect it.

For that reason, I utilize sustainable fashion because it helps support a greater good. By rocking this brown dress and showing that secondhand fashion can be cute is a way to spread the message that old, used, and shared items are just as valuable and useful as things that are brand new.

  1. Absolutely right on all counts – the outfit looks great, your sister looks amazing in it, and Nature is something we should certainly connect to more often! I’m also a huge fan of the color brown – I wear it myself as often as I can, along with other Earth tones, when I’m not wearing black (black is the new black in northern Germany, haha).

    1. Lol! Thank you! I usually wear a lot of bright colors, so buying a chocolate brown dress was different for me. But it looks so beautiful! I’ll have to incorporate the color more into my wardrobe.
