Do Good & Be Green Event hosted by Love Goodly!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending an eco beauty, fashion, and lifestyle conference at the The Collection in Downtown Los Angeles! The Do Good. Be Green event was held by Love Goodly, a cruelty-free, eco-conscious subscription box!

With Love Goodly’s passion for eco beauty and sustainable living, they threw this amazing event focused on detoxifying our lifestyles inspired by three shocking truths:

  1. The average US woman puts 168 chemicals on her body everyday in her personal care.
  2. 89% of personal care/beauty ingredients have not been evaluated by the FDA.
  3. 60% what goes on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream.

With this knowledge, Love Goodly packed the conference with opportunities to test new products, relax with wellness breaks, and have the chance to listen in to powerhouse experts in ecobeauty and conscious fashion.

Eco Fashion Panel

I arrived to the event around 11am, where I was able to slip into the Eco Fashion Panel which includes Hali Borenstein of Reformation, Biance Moran CEO of Susi Studio, Ann Wang Cofounder of Enrou, and Debra Denniston of Hipsters for Sisters. I was eating up this panel, because everything they discussed was so important to my heart! It was so great to listen to experts in the field talk about their struggles and challenges within the sustainable fashion industry.

A saying I kept hearing throughout the day was ‘Do the best you can.’ I think that was a very important message to get across. It reminds me that every small movement we make towards a greener, happier world should be celebrated! Also, I learned that it’s okay to understand that not every aspect of your business may be sustainable – and just own it! Be confident in the good choices you are able to make. Transparency is key in developing trust with your consumers.

Wellness Break

After the eco fashion panel was a wellness break with Kimberly Fowler, CEO of YAS Fitness Centers.

We took off our shoes and did some chain yin yoga, which includes stretching your toes, rolling our necks, and taking long deep breathes.

Kimberly explained that she had a brain tumor which threatened her quality of life. With a predicted short life expectancy, she drastically changed her lifestyle. She now partakes in yoga every day, which she believes saved her health. During our chair yin yoga Kimberly encouraged us to close our eyes and meditate on a single word to drop all negative thoughts and fill our minds with only useful, positive thoughts. I’ve noticed that I’ve been second guessing myself a lot this year, so the word I concentrated on was ‘confidence.’

A useful tip Kimberly told us was that meditating every day for 5 minutes is much more powerful than meditating once in a while for 20 minutes. She explained that the small, routine adjustments in life are the most powerful. I absolutely agree with her! I’m excited to spend five minutes a day clearing my mind.

Exploring Conscious Brands

After our yoga exercise I explored over 20 conscious brands who set up booths around the venue. I met a bunch of amazing women, including Paige Padgett, green beauty expert and author of The Green Beauty Rules.

I also dropped by the Love Goodly subscription box booth, where I got an awesome temporary flash tattoo!

Before the next set of speakers I sat down and ate a yummy vegan quinoa salad with fruit skewers and munched on yummy vegan samples.

The Future of Beauty Panel

After lunch I listened in on The Future of Beauty Panel. I was particularly impressed by Darcey Diehl, founder of Lippy Girl. As a mom and chemical scientist, she has a lot of opinions on what type of beauty products should be on the market. She took a moment to explain how polymers work, and how chemists use it as a cheap ingredient to change the texture of beauty products. I appreciated the quick chemistry lesson and her ability to translate carbon chains into laymen’s terms for everyone to understand.

In the afternoon the audience participated in another Wellness Break before listening in on the Doing Good Panel. Lastly, I sat in on the Meet the Content Creators Panel. It had awesome ladies from the biggest publications in sustainable living. Besides the panels, there were also opportunities for quick  nontoxic, cruelty-free manicures!

Before the Cocktail hour I was sure to get a photo along the green event carpet and grab my goodie tote bag on the way out. The goodies includes a ton of vegan products valued at $150+! Also I got the latest Love Goodly subscription box! It was awesome! I’m excited to attend more events like this in the future.

  1. Thanks for sharing your insights Karen. I found your post very enlightening. Yes, I totally agree. Do our best when and where we can. Everyone can do something no matter how small. It’s in the small changes that will make the greatest impact for reducing our waste. For myself it’s not buying the next trend or ‘new’ products as much. I can live with less~cheers (reduse, reuse, upcycle!)
