As a sustainable fashionista, the origin of where my clothes came from is important to me. There’s a mystery behind it that I admire at times, essentially when I thrift shop. The ambiguity of where my clothes came from and who wore them before me gives me a romanticized view of my wardrobe, as if it’s full of mystery with a sweet broken-in touch of life.  As a young woman living in Hollywood, I realized that I really need to step up my wardrobe with some modern, chic pieces, like a classic navy dress.

Unlike thrift shopping, I don’t care for mystery behind purchasing new items. In fact, I appreciate the transparency of companies that are built by people who are excited to share their passion for sustainability. I always feel that brands are truly sustainable if they are run by people who are beyond happy to explain the processes, manufacturing, and business model behind their clothing.

For this reason, I am always on the hunt for awesome eco-friendly brands. Time to time I will find a green company that hits all the marks: it’s affordable, versatile, and sustainable. The brand that comes to mind is Aeon Row: a cool, timeless brand run by passionate and dedicated people who are stoked to tell the tale of their ecofashion escapades. They sent me their Navy Ridge-Slit Dress to review, and I’m in love with it.

I originally found Aeon Row when thumbing through their Instagram account. I was really attracted to their clean, hip designs. The pieces in their collection are in trend now, but I also feel that their styles will be fashionable and timeless years from now, which is sustainable in itself! The navy dress I’m wearing here is $78 in a size extra small.

Comfort and Function

I really love this dress because it is incredibly easy to walk around in. This particular day, I took a stroll in Silverlake in Los Angeles with two of my best friends. It was a super hot day, and we walked a few miles in it, but I hardly noticed the dress because it was so comfortable and not fussy at all.

I believe a reason this navy dress is so comfortable has to do with the cut, which is really interesting to me because I’ve never really seen a dress like it before. The design cuts close to my body to show my figure, yet my legs do not feel constrained whatsoever. It’s sort of like the freedom of wearing a flowy maxi skirt with the togetherness of a tastefully fitted bodycon dress. Is that doesn’t sound like the best of both world, I don’t know what is!

Revived Fabric

Another reason I love this navy dress is its fabric. The piece is made from 100% recycled poly-cotton jersey knit. The fabric is designed for maximum softness and minimal environmental impact. Since fabrics are recycled and reborn into new pieces, no dyes or water are used to produce any of the items. Additionally, no land was used to cultivate material for the fabric, since Aeon Row repurposes fabric that would otherwise be wasted.

Aeon Row works to avoid the resource extraction that typically occurs within the fast fashion industry. Their website reminds us that the average t-shirt requires 700 gallons of water and 1/3 pounds of chemicals to be produced. Wow.

Aeon Row also makes it easy for us to help with conscious consumerism both by buying their clothes and by sending them old clothes. Basically, when you receive a package from Aeon Row, inside you’ll find a return label that you can use to send back an old piece of clothing. The old clothing you send in is recycled, and sometimes broken down and spun into yarn to make new Aeon Row clothing. If that’s not cool enough, in return for your sustainable efforts Aeon Row will give you 15% off your next purchase.

Eco Never Goes Out of Style

Aeon Row created a collection that I really aim to wear every day. I want to have that timeless, classic, on trend, low-stress cool look, and Aeon Row offers that in their collection.

I’m really happy to have discovered Aeon Row because it bashes a lot of the misleading stereotypes of sustainable fashion. Aeon Row is a fresh, cool, playful, and interesting brand created by people who truly care about the core meaning of their company. For that, I’m grateful to find passionate people run green businesses that offer a positive influence in the fashion industry.
