I am so fond of this purple geometric long sleeve, probably because it’s so unique to anything else I own. The 1960’s inspired color block trend has made a comeback the last two years and has even made appearances in 2015 runway collections. I think it’s awesome that a trend from 50 years ago has recycled into current culture—what a great time it is to utilize vintage color block into our wardrobe and reuse vintage pieces worn by women in the 60’s!

I purchased this secondhand piece at an Assistance League charity shop for $4. The fabric is extremely soft and comfortable. The pop of colors is attention grabbing, so I decided to pair it with a backwards baseball cap and black jean shorts to sport an edgy street style look.

My black jeans are the product of a DIY project; The shorts were faded out quite a bit so I bought some all-natural black dye and soaked them to be dark as new. I did feel that the shorts were a little too short on my thigh, so I decided to sew on an inch of length by adding a dainty lace trim along the bottom hem. These two small adjustments transformed this piece to suit me again. It is usually more sustainable to fix things rather than throw an item away and buy new one. Plus, it’s fun to be creative and decide what ways you can enhance your clothing to be useful again! It was a creative challenge I set for myself, and oh how simple it was!

  1. I love the top! It’s amazing the clothes you can find in thrift stores if you look hard enough. My husband gets all his ties and dress shirts for work at the Goodwill. Many of them still have the tags. Any advise on finding jeans? I wear short/petite, but the jeans I like are always regular/tall….soooo, frustrating!

    1. You know, I haven’t had the best luck with jeans, but also honestly have dug too deep to scout out the right pair. Personally I really like the look of cuffed pants. I’ll actually do this even when the paint leg hits my ankle at the right spot.. I just really like the cuffed look! I’m so with you on the Goodwill finds. I have so much fun looking through secondhand shops and have saved so much money! Plus it’s eco-friendly, a major plus 🙂

  3. Hi Karen,
You inspired me to overhaul my entire wardrobe. I was stuck in a rut because I didn’t think any of the latest styles were flattering for me. However, looking at all the different pieces on your site has helped me shop for and pick out items that I’m really comfortable with. My coworkers up here at Cal Center DTSC thought I was someone else!

I’m not going to be able to rock the lace like you do, but your dresses have me steered in the right direction. Keep up the awesome creativity! 🙂

    1. Hi Rita, that is so great to hear! I’m happy I was able to offer some inspiration. I think it’s fun to experiment with clothing and wear things out of our comfort zones. Thanks so much for dropping by! 🙂

  4. Great refashion, Karen!

You’ve done lovely job with this shorts. The contrast of the delicate lace compliments the shirt so well and creates kind of a modern ‘mix&match’ look!

Keep the good style coming 😉
