Little Red Dress

I bought this pretty red dress at Crossroad’s Trading Company for $9 in West Hollywood. It has front pockets with a zipper along my back making it functional and easy to put on.  My shades were bought from a secondhand shop in LA, and I really dig the thick frames. I think the yellow-orange reflective image that the sunglasses bounce back at people pairs well with the simplicity of a little red dress.

My boots were bought at the Goodwill in Los Angeles for $10, and I really love them! I bought two pairs, one in black and the other in navy blue, which were both fortunately my size. The boots were made in Brazil and have chunky trapezoid heels. They’re very comfortable and have a specific “clink” noise as I walk down the pavement with them. The tap of the shoes against the ground sounds more expensive I’ll even say. That probably sounds like overkill, but I swear I can tell the difference between a plastic heel hitting the ground in comparison with something crafted with more handiwork and quality. thrift shopping upcycling sustainable fashion recycled clothes ecofashionI think outfits become polished when upholding even the smallest detail and although you might not notice the clinks of your step your subconscious will (or someone else’s subconscious will) and it’ll spark a smidge of quality and class your way. If you appreciate the details of well-made treasures, secondhand shopping will transform how you discover new items in your wardrobe. Although these shoes have been worn before, the careful care of the previous owner allows me to wear them, love them, and share them with you. No resources were exhausted in my effort to wear and obtain these beauties. Talk about a sustainable footprint!

This crazy mountain I’m in front of is from my weekend trip to Salvation Mountain in Niland, California. Leonard King, a man convinced by the simple virtue that “God is Love” used adobe, straw, and paint to build a faux hill to illustrate his colorful message. As lovers of folk art, my sister and I made it our top destination for the Labor Day weekend and took a handful of fun pictures along the way.
