OOTD: Silk Rose Blouse

I bought this silk rose blouse at a thrift store in Orange County for $1. Seriously! I walked in the store during a 15 minute flash sale and was immediately gravitated towards it! I tried it on over my tank top, deemed it adorable, and headed to check out.

The frame of the top is a little boxy and I was afraid that it was cut was masculine and not cutesy enough for me despite the roaring red roses seen all over. I found that if I unbutton the last 2 buttons and tie the ends it makes the piece more flirty and edgy.

The piece is vintage, which means it’s old (obviously), has character, is usually of good quality, and has been kept in decent shape to be worn again. I love wearing vintage clothing because there’s a special feel that comes with it. Wearing one of a kind pieces like this top can embellish a plain pair of jeans and create a stand out outfit.

Another crazy thing about the beauty and quality of this outfit is… when’s the last time you bought a silk blouse for $1?! Fast fashion is cheap, really cheap, but to find such a beautiful silk piece for so low cost is something you can only experience by thrift shopping.

I like to use my website to inspire you guys to show that you can stumble across really fun, beautiful things at secondhand shops. I know the whole process of thrift shopping can seem a little overwhelming, but it is so exciting to me. I like to give my own little case study successes through my blog posts to voice some victories.

This week I’ve been getting really excited for the holidays. Gift giving is on my mind, although I want to continue my sustainable lifestyle and not buy much, if anything at all. That’s why I’m getting pumped on some awesome eco-friendly DIY projects swirling around in my head. I’ll be sharing those ideas here and on my Mother Earth News blog. x

  1. Awesome love the pics thanks for using them… I am thinking the same thing about my holiday shopping, want to stay true to my not buying anything new.. Cant wait to read your post about DIY holiday projects. Thank you, Angela ~

    1. Thanks Angela! Definitely. Being sustainable during the holiday season definitely requires us to use our imagination… 🙂

  2. Hey, Karen,

That is a great find! You look wonderful with it! It is ridiculous price you can find silks in charity shops, but what a happy time (I have few for my refashions).
And yes… leather jacket will kill it! It’s hard to find a good leather jacket design… so I’m into upcycling soft leather too.
    Have lovely time;)

    1. Yeah! I love looking at jackets in secondhand stores. A lot of them are busts of kind of pricey, but ever once in a while I’ll see one that’s super cute. Never thought about repurposing the leather from them; that’s a good idea!
