This red kimono is designed by Jessica White, creator of Jwhite Original. Her company, which is based in New York City, specializes in artisan apparel with the environment in mind. Jwhite Original uses grass roots screen printing with a sustainable touch to create the most beautiful, unique designs. Her clothing ranges from infinity scarves to turbans in geometric prints coined clever names like, Black Moon or Gold Hawk. Her work is inspired by a combined global perspective of culture, nature, and eco consciousness.
At Jwhite Original, each piece is handmade and upcycled using eco safe inks. Using natural, safe inks is totally worth looking into. Many big companies have been reported to yield traces of chemicals like NPEs in their products. NPEs are commonly used in detergents within the textile industry and have been suggested to cause cancer. Additionally, some clothing companies use toxic, colorless gas to give their clothing a freshly ironed appearance. Most companies mold their business model to make money, which makes sense, although the idea of adopting safer inks and fabrics is often looked over. Factories often produce big bulk shipments in countries with lower restrictions. In short, ethical companies are super important. I respect brands like Jwhite Original that take on the responsibility to design clothing with materials that will not cause a detrimental effect to human health or the environment.

Her brand is designed with a certain shape and style that’s original to most pieces you see in department stores. Jwhite hosts clothing where street style, classic vibes, and bold designs combine. Her ideas are welded into a solid collection of draped kimonos, slouched jumpsuits, and chunky cowls…and I’m a big fan!
I was excited to try on one of Jwhite’s beautiful pieces. I received a Rosas Eco Print kimono which feels lovely and luxurious. It was ethically made in Brooklyn from wool and silk. The color is deep and vibrant and is the perfect new red piece I’ve been itching to throw into my wardrobe. As a professional by day and L.A. adventurer by night, I think this red kimono is a perfect transition piece. I can wear it to work with a belted waist and black slacks, as well as over a simply cut sundress.
I wore the piece with black jeggings, a black sleeveless tank, and boots that I recently snagged off thredUP. I wore this red kimono around Santa Monica as I ran errands, and I received compliments! I think that the red is so vibrant and richly colored that people take notice, especially since the piece is beautifully made. One of my favorite parts of this red kimono is that it looks great at every angle. Even on a breezy day this red robe moves around in a majestic way.
