These reusable glass straws by Gaia Guy are awesome. Period. I partnered up with Gaia Guy and ordered these off Amazon to show the waste-free benefits of using reusable straws.

The box I ordered comes with four 9 inch glass straws with two straw cleaners. reusable straws straw glass bpa free plastic product review sustainable sustainability blog bloggerThe pyrex straws are the strongest commercially available, making them shatter resistant, safe, and long lasting. The straws are also BPA free and of course, nontoxic. The diameter of each straw opening is 12mm so it’s perfect to slurp up thick smoothies and shakes. Since the box comes with two straw cleaners, it’s easy to divide the straws for home, and for work or travel. I like to keep a couple at my apartment, one at my desk at work, and one in my purse.

Being an environmentalist means voicing what you think is best for the world. But sometimes slipping a reusable glass straw in your iced coffee is a quiet message to people around you that you care, and that it’s possible to adapt your life for a kinder, cleaner planet. I think this action is a really clever, smart way to express your eco-friendly lifestyle without being overly enterprising. In this manner, your peers can choose whether or not they want to strike up a conversation. And, if anything, it may make them ponder and consider adopting more well-made reusable utensils in their own life!

Saving Plastic

According to Eco Cycle, Americans throw away 500 million plastic straws a day. That is a lot of plastic! Based on this average, each person in the U.S. throws away 38,000 plastic straws into a landfill. Imagine how much plastic you would save by using a reusable straw!

When being eco is this easy and cool, it’s silly not to adapt your life towards a more conscious zerowaste lifestyle. I think it’ attractive when people influence their lives in a way that takes other people, animals, and nature into consideration. Thoughtfulness is a sign of compassion, and I appreciate those who take even a small step towards zerowaste living.

Personally, I love drinking from straws. I am a big green tea drinker, and since getting my teeth whitened I have been using Gaia Guy reusable straws on the daily. reusable straws straw glass bpa free plastic product review sustainable sustainability blog bloggerThey are so easy, smooth, and durable. Since the opening is bigger that a normal straw, cleaning them is super easy. Especially when drinking liquids, I can just run the straw under water a few times and it’s ready to go! I love to keep one straw in my purse to pop into a drink while on the run.

Besides sipping on green tea, I love to use these reusable straws for smoothies. Today I made one of my favorite recipes for a strawberry peach blend which is packed with protein and vitamins. This recipe is simple, fruity, and sweet. It has no added sweeteners, and includes some of the most delicious strawberries I’ve ever gotten from the farmers market… yum!

Here’s How to Make my Strawberry Peach Smoothie:

Combine in a blender:

  • 1 ripe frozen banana
  • ½ cup frozen organic peaches
  • ½ cup organic strawberries
  • ¾ cup Greek yogurt
  • ½-1 cups of chilled green tea

Blend until smooth, throw in a reusable glass straw, and enjoy! 😉
