Soy Candles by Sapone di Bronte

Soy Candles by Sapone di Bronte

Sapone di Bronte was created with homage to the honesty and quality in Italian ingredients. The creator’s grandparents made rich, tasteful recipes with accents of lemon, lime, cinnamon, and vanilla. With her Sicilian heritage, Sapone di Bronte was sprouted after romanticizing simpler times, where products are handmade using natural ingredients. Her collection of bath and body care products, Sapone di Bronte, which translates to ‘Soap of Bronte,’ her great grandparent’s Italian village, is a tribute to her heritage and family recipes. I first heard about Sapone di Bronte after my friend Angela of Sustainable Style Solutions couldn’t stop raving about them! She sells the products on her blog, and was happy to offer me these products like Sapone di Bronte‘s soy candles for a review today.

With their own twist, Sapone di Bronte creates a unique like of fragrant spa products with rich flavors that resemble the taste of Italy.  Some of the essential oil mixtures include Lemongrass, Pink Grapefruit, Rosemary, Lemongrass, Anise Biscotti, Cinnamon Mocha, Lavender, Bergamot Ylang Ylang and Sicilian Lime. Yum!

All Eco

Besides the warm ties to Italian heritage, what makes Sapone di Bronte great is their all-natural ingredients. Sapone di Bronte is plant-based, vegan, and is handmade in the USA. Sapone di Bronte never uses synthetic fragrances, colors, parabens, or any ingredients tested on animals.

In addition to their ingredients, this body care line chooses to use reusable or sustainable packaging. Their soap wrappers are even biodegradable and compostable! I have been in love with two of their products, the Vanilla soy candle and the roll-on fragrance.

Benefits of Soy Candles

Soy candles are made from a vegetable wax derived from soybean oil.  To attain soybean oil, soybeans are harvested and rolled into small pieces. Oil is extracted from these pieces, where fatty acids in the oil are saturated, which slows the melting point of the oil, making the burn time of soy candles longer.

This method is good, because it’s derived from a natural, renewable resource. It is also biodegradable and burns ‘clean’ with long-lasting burn times with zero petro carbon soot, which means cleaner indoor air!

Dangers of Chemicals in Other Candles

Most candles are made with paraffin, which is a byproduct from the petroleum industry. It can release carcinogenic chemicals when burned, so inhaling the fumes resemble that of secondhand cigarette smoke. This can cause respiratory problems, like asthma, coughing, and discomfort when breathing. Isn’t that sad to light a candle to wind down and attain mental clarity, yet unknowingly be inhaling toxic fumes?

In a University of Michigan study in the late 1990’s, it was found that 1/3 of candles in the USA released lead into the atmosphere due to their wicks, which have a lead core. These lead levels were found to be higher than what’s considered to be safe by the EPA, which led to lead wicks being banned in 2003. Case in point: soy candles are the way to go!
