Wool Slippers by Tibetan Socks

Wool Slippers by Tibetan Socks

As the weather gets chilly and we add an extra blanket or two to our comfy beds, drink hot chocolate, and bust out the scarves, there’s one fall clothing essential that I can’t live without… wool slippers! I’ve been obsessed with these sock like slippers by Tibetan Socks. They are a cozy wool blend that keep my feet super warm. Plus, unlike the winter socks I currently use (think thick beige hiking socks) these are much cuter! And of course, they have an uber awesome ethical impact behind it, which makes me love them even more.

Ethical Fashion

These wool slippers are hand-knit by villagers in the Himalayan mountains. Specifically, they are knit by Tibetan and Nepalese women who use techniques utilized for generations that allows them to stay home with their children and earn a sustainable income for their family.

The idea first begun when founder Adrien Field traveled to India on a life changing trip. Inspired from his years working in India as a clothing designer, he realized the beauty and essentiality in the thick wool socks he bought from Tibetan women when visiting the Himalayas. He decided to join forces with them to share the wonderfully handcrafted socks that were a sole necessity to keep his feet warm despite freezing temperatures.

With each pair of socks sold, Tibetan Socks gives back to those in need by providing food, medicine, education materials, and other essentials to those in need in the Himalayan region by partnering with local NGOs to fund specific projects.

The socks I’m wearing are the Purple Hand Knit Wool Sock Slippers. In collaboration with NGOs, with the purchase of these socks you give either 12 school lunches for children in Sikkim, India, 2 weeks of food and lodging for an orphan in a monastery school in Tibet, or books and medical supplies for the women and children at Maiti Nepal. How absolutely beautiful is that? Tibetan Socks give you the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful, stylish, functional clothing item that also offers necessary resources to children in India, Tibet, and Nepal.

Handmade and Well-made

The wool socks have a fleece lining with a colorful thick stitched blend of yarns. I really like these socks because they’re well-made, but also have a loving touch, sort of like the socks my grandmother may knit for me.

It’s beautiful to wear something bound together by mothers in villages who are using their skill and craftsmanship to be stable business women and support their families. Likewise, it’s fantastic to link with ethical fashion companies like Tibetan Socks who care about the wellbeing of others and the working conditions and happiness of the women they employ.

That positive karma is woven into the socks, and it makes me happy to curl up with something that is birthed from the beautiful idea of collaboration, fashion, and sustainability.
