Yoga Shirts by OM Matters
I’ve found that one sneaky motivator to a good workout is cute gym attire. I usually opt for an old t-shirt from my high school tennis league (I am a fan of secondhand after all)! But, when at my yoga class, the last thing I want to feel is insecurity when I’m trying to zone out and wind down in a well-loved but heavily worn out tee. I mean, we should feel beautiful in anything we wear, and I certainly almost always do. But there’s something about slipping on one of these short sleeve t-shirts by OM Matters that makes me feel chic, feminine, and totally comfortable in my own skin. This comfy line has a beautiful heart too, which makes me love wearing these yoga shirts even more.
Owner Tambra Wayne had her life transform into a positive space as a result of practicing yoga for almost 10 years. With a humbled heart and a passion for change, Tambra followed her destiny to work towards her true passions to help at-risk youth through the sales of her ethical yoga company, OM Matters.
For every clothing item purchased on OM Matters, like these yoga shirts, 10% of sales fund yoga for at-risk youth. Yoga is such a great pairing with children because it promotes higher self-confidence, brings healthier coping mechanisms, helps children deal with stress, and results in better engagement in school. Tambra’s goal is to bring yoga to 10,000 at-risk-youth by 2019!
As a yogi myself, I can also 100% agree with the amazing positive effects yoga has on the body and mind. During a period of my most intense practices I noticed how anger can be completely subsided, stressful problems can no longer seem stressful, and a wholesome, full-bodied awareness and confidence can be flushed through the body. It makes me so happy that Tambra evoked a passion to share such a peaceful, loving practice to help children thrive!
OM, which is a Sanskirt word, represents the interconnectivity within the universe. Likewise, Tambra notes that the first yama listed by Patañjali in the Yoga Sūtras, ahimsa directs us toward non-harming: the true foundation of the yoga practice. She explains, “We avoid doing harm not only to others—including animals, plants, and non-living entities—but to ourselves. After all, we are all interconnected.”
With this in mind, OM Matters uses ahimsa as a grounding point to promote themselves as an eco-friendly, ethical fashion company that strives to be non-harming. For example, clothing is made from natural, synthetic-free, and biodegradable fabrics! Also, OM Matters is a local company and sources, manufactures, and packages all their attire in SoCal. By sourcing locally, OM Matters reduces carbon emissions and avoids the need to manufacture oversees. Addionally, OM Matters uses recycled materials to package their products and is in tune with their low waste habits. Cute clothes and kind to the environment? Yes please!
Embracing a consciousness to look after the world makes it easy to love OM Matters! It feels honorable and honest to make responsible purchases of items sold by kind-spirited people.
I teamed up with OM Matters to review a couple soft, eco micromodal yoga shirts! The white shirt I’m wearing in the Prānāyāma Relaxed Fit shirt. On the back of my white tee states the 4th limb of the 8 Limbs of Yoga is prānāyāma, your breath/life force.
“Pranayama enables us to cultivate our very life force (Prana) through various techniques that teach us to relax and control our breath… creating divine conditions for health in the body and peace in the mind.”
My rose colored tee is the Pratyāhāra Relaxed Fit shirt which is about the 5th limb of the 8 Limbs of Yoga, pratyāhāra, which encourages us to let go of all of life’s distractions and turn inward to find peace
“The fifth limb is Pratyahara: the withdrawing of the senses and the letting go of all the many sensations we feel, hear, see, taste, and smell. By abandoning the countless distractions of day-to-day life, the mind is free to move into meditation—the ultimate goal of yoga.”
