Bamboo Sunglasses by Gaia Guy
These awesome bamboo sunglasses are by Gaia Guy, a brand that sells an array of eco-friendly goods like zerowaste glass straws and compostable toothbrushes! There are many reasons why I love these shades. They are biodegradable, non-toxic, hypoallergenic, and in a classic wayfarer unisex style. What’s not to love?
I admit, oddly sunglasses were not a product I have historically invested in. I’m not sure why, but most of mine ended up being plastic. They would often snap in my purse and were a struggle to piece together. No matter what hardcore strength glue I used, they always looked slightly lop-sided. I had unofficially deemed my shade collection mediocre, when my pal Ian from Gaia Guy asked me if I’d like to review his wicked bamboo sunglasses. These shades are stunning and are the perfect facelift accessory to a sustainable wardrobe!
Bamboo
First of all, one of the best things about these sunglasses is that they are made from bamboo! Bamboo is a highly sustainable material because it is an amazing natural and renewable resource. Bamboo can grow at exceedingly fast rates, some species up to 100 centimeters a day, which makes their crop fields highly efficient. In addition, bamboo can be typically harvested every 3 years in comparison to other big trees which take up to 20 years to harvest.
I love that the bamboo of these sunglasses is not painted or tinted with any color. I like showing off the fact that the sunnies are made from bamboo, because there is something really cool about repp’ing recognizably sustainable products in everyday life.
Another thing I love about these sunglasses is the case, and what a beautiful case it is. The sunglasses comes with an organic cotton drawstring pouch and a bamboo carved cylinder case so they can travel safely.
UV Protection
It doesn’t matter if you live in the desert, ocean-side, among the snowy mountains, or along a grassy hillside. Sun protection is vitally important. I have learned the value of protecting myself from the sun by using a substantial SPF and certified UV shades. These shades have UV400 polarized lenses which are able to block UVA and UVB light rays as small as 400 nanometers. This UV protection keeps 99 to 100 percent of the sun’s harmful radiation away from your eyes.
Zerowaste and Cradle-to-Grave
One thing I really admire about Gaia Guy products is the honest intention for responsible consumerism. The products are sent in recyclable packaging and are made to last a very long, long time (and in a timeless wayfarer style, they would never really go out of style!). Although these shades are biodegradable, the lenses are plastic. Being the green guy Ian of Gaia Guy is, he created a blog post of creative ways you can upcycle or repurpose your shades after many uses in the future. How amazing is it that a brand cares about the cradle-to-grave process? I rarely see this intention with eco-friendly products and I have to say, ‘Bravo!’
These bamboo sunglasses are available on the Gaia Guy website, Etsy, or Amazon. I think these could be a beautiful gift! They are an awesome eco-fashion piece that has amazing functionality and a beautiful, sleek look. For similar reviews, check out my previous posts!
