Thrifted Bell Sleeved Top and Pencil Skirt
A couple weeks ago I visited OUE Skyspace in downtown Los Angeles! It’s an observation deck off the Bank of America skyscraper, which is approximately 1,000 feet high. I did not have any expectations but was blown away by the amazing view!
I’m no stranger to epic views of Los Angeles. My sister rented a house in the Hollywood hills for a couple years, and I love hiking to the Griffith Observatory. But looking across the city on the tallest skyscraper in LA was an surreal moment that filled me with excitement. There’s something about being high up and looking down at a city that makes me (and surely everyone) feel giddy inside.
My awestruck moment actually reminded me of a inspirational seminar I went to while I was in school at UC Santa Barbara. The speaker was Ryland King, the founder of the environmental education non-profit Sprout Up. His advice to stay inspired was to ‘get high’ – as in, hike up till you attain some altitude and can gaze out your city. That’s when we start to feel limitless and magic happens. I mean, who doesn’t feel like they can conquer the world when you can see for miles? I think the experience makes the world seem small (because you can literally see into infinity), and a macho side of us arises and we feels unstoppable. That’s my psychological interpretation at least.
Anyways, let’s get to the outfit. 🙂
Bell Sleeved Top
I bought this beyond beautiful bell sleeved top at Crossroads Trading Co. There’s several Crossroads Trading stores in Los Angeles, and I poke around all of them. But there’s one in particular in Silverlake that I have had great luck at.
This top doesn’t have a brand tag, but it’s really well-made. When I bought it I found a pink stain on the body of the piece. I asked an employee if I could have a discount because it’s damaged, but she declined because it was new to the store and said it would probably wash out. I probably seemed suspicious cause I was rocking bright red lipstick and tried it on before I asked her, lol. Lucky for me the stain washed out and it’s as good a new. I am so glad I went with my gut and snagged it!
Navy Pencil Skirt
I paired this bell sleeved top with a sexy navy pencil skirt I also found at Crossroads!
I am learning how to better style myself taking my body shape into account. I’ve learned through trial and error (and lots of awkward pictures of myself) that a high waist and form fitting bottoms look very flattering on me. Ever since my realization I’ve been solely seeking high waisted bottoms and this skirt definitely made the cut.
Stiletto Heels and Thrifted Purse
Lastly I paid my outfit with my trusty stiletto heels I bought several years ago on thredUP. They’re seriously amazing – they fit like a glove and I wear them ALL the time, yet never break. I also carried a cute little black purse that had an optional satchel strap.
I had a lot of fun this day. I explored the OUE Skyspace with my friend and fellow sustainable fashion blogger SK of Styles for Thought. She is really good at pairing one piece of clothing into several outfits (like capsule wardrobes), or if you want to justify an expensive buy, she’s great at showing ways to make one piece last for years and stay versatile. We found this wall with angel wings and had fun taking turns snapping shots against the cityscape!
