Equality Apparel by Round + Square
I love this equality apparel by Round + Square because it reminds me of one of my fiercest passions alongside preserving the environment: the empowerment of women.
I watched the documentary Innsaei, which is the Icelandic word for intuition. In this documentary, a man described that an underlying reason why so many women has suffered abuse is from a disrespect of the ultimate and divine feminine: Mother Earth. He explains that this disrespect of what’s feminine correlated of the detachment and disregard for the environment causes rage and a certain entitlement. Nature is a beautiful source of nurturing, resourceful, powerful, and humble energy. Without it’s connection, it’s difficult to appreciate other feminine forces in our lives.
You may think that’s a stretch, but personally, I had an ‘ah-ha’ moment. I saw that many of the passions I care about women and the environment overlap. Equality for women is a respect for women, which is an evolved respect for all living things.
Environmental Issues are Women’s Issues
Many of the environmental issues I fight for are also women’s issues. For example, women who use 6-7+ more bathroom products on average more than men. Yet, a major federal law has not been passed to protect these women from toxic ingredients in cosmetic and beauty products since the 1930’s. Why it is that?
I bring these issues up to make a connection, that when the right thing is done, it creates a domino effect!
How it Began
With that being said, I had this awesome opportunity to test out an equality apparel brand called Round + Square. Round + Square is powered by their vision to combine style, substance, and sustainability in support of gender equality!
Round + Square was created when the Henriette Ernst learned about Equality Now’s life-changing work to protect the human rights of women and girls. She learned about the horror and abuse so many women face globally. This, combined with a lack of support for women in her own industry and her own passionate heart, Round + Square was born to make a difference. Equality Now is the brand’s inaugural giving partner, and receives 30% (!) of the brand’s sales.
Let’s Make Equality Reality Bandana
This paisley bandana is such a beautiful piece. It’s sustainable made and woven with r-PET yarn from recycled plastic bottles. Hand-drawn designs are distributed on the bandana with messages that promote gender equality.
It comes in a 100% organic cotton pouch with girl power hashtags to keep the bandana clean and long-lasting.
I’ve been loving this equality apparel piece because it can look so cute in so many ways! I had fun putting it in my hair like I did when I was a little girl, or wrapping it in a chic tie along my wrist.
There are so many fun ways to spice up your equality apparel with a touch of hot pink. I also like using this piece to block harsh sunlight. I’ll wrap it around my neck as a neck-tie, or let it hang slightly to protect my chest from UV rays.
Women’s Equality Now Muscle Tee
This muscle tee is made from 100% organic cotton, GOTS certified. The tee is a slim fit with a rough edge cut to give it an edgy feel. On the back of this tee are powerful equality hashtags behind the back neckline. I think this is such a tasteful touch to add to the clothing. It provides a way to represent gender equality, even if you’re not someone who can confidently rock a “#FEMINIST” shirt across your chest. It really does add a bit of curiosity to the shirt and is a sweet touch.
Water Usage
Round + Square also collaborated with CANEPA’s Kitotex method that cuts down the consumption of water and energy by 95%. This process dramatically reduces the use of toxic substances and lowers CO2 emissions. CANEPA is also the first textile business worldwide to endorse Greenpeace Detox protocol (which I would highly recommend you guys check out!).
