Honey Beauty Products by Marin Bee Company
I think it’s so beautiful that nature provides us with honey, which is such a sweet treat yet powerful antioxidant. When Marin Bee reached out to me to review a few of their honey beauty products, I was stoked!
Marin Bee was first created by Debra Tomaszewski who found that honey had helped her complexion while tending her hives. Her children, who have sensitive skin, were suggested by their doctor to take medication to cure their skin irritations. Debra decided to turn to nature to create a skincare formula that could nourish people’s skin in a natural way.
Sustainable Daisy’s Summer as a Beekeeper
After I graduated college, I backpacked around Europe with my friend Lacey. For a week in Italy we decided to work on an organic farm that was apart of WWOOF, World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. In exchange for working several hours a day, a family would provide us with food and a place to stay.
During this time I helped German beekeeper, Stefan, manage his organic bee farm on the outskirts of Arezzo, Italy. I was so impressed with Stefan’s meticulous strategy of harvesting honey, organically removing pests by hand, and harvesting honey himself. He would harvest the honey in a beekeeping suit, place the honey comb in a centrifuge, and jar the gooey gold to be sold at the farmer’s market. This was his family’s main income, and I had SO much appreciation for him, his heart, and his hard work. It made this honey so much more valuable to me and made want me to support farmers who work extra hard to have a pure, organic product. With that being said, I have a heart for beekeeping and honey!
Detox Masque
The first product I tried was the detox masque. I smoothed the formula around my face and neck and waiting about twenty minutes before washing it away with warm water. The masque is 98% derived from natural and organic ingredients to draw out impurities. My skin felt so soft and delicate afterwards! Debra explains that California Wildflower Honey provides a natural barrier against environmental toxins and can draw in moisture to keep your skin hydrated. I agree – my skin did feel very healthy and conditioned.
Honey Butter
After a quick shower and shave I applied the honey butter. I really like this formula because it’s very thick, but not greasy. The butter is so concentrated with shea butter and jojoba oil that it’s a perfect combination for super dry, ashy areas, such as the elbows and knees.
I also like to use this honey butter as a hand cream since my hands have experienced a lot of environmental wear and tear.
Lip Repair
The last product I tested was the lip repair!
I have very dry lips and usually have to apply a balm to them every 30 minutes. I really like this lip repair because it has really great natural, hydrated ingredients like calendula and pomegranate oil.
The formula also has beeswax, which I like, because I feel that beeswax adds extra viscosity to the product to make it long-lasting on the lip.
Free of Harmful Ingredients
Marin Bee doesn’t use phthalates, parabens, synthetic dyes, or petroleum or formaldehyde producing preservatives in their honey beauty products. Instead, they use a concentrated combo with vitamins, amino acids, prebiotics, and antioxidants to regenerate the skin to a healthy, natural state. The honey is made locally in California, near Marin Bee headquarters. The honey is sustainably-sourced and Marin Bee consistently works to lower their carbon footprint.
Planet Bee Foundation
As many of you may already know, the bee population has suffered due to environmental factors and Colony Collapse Disorder. Debra and Bill wanted to spread the word about the worldwide die-off by providing free beekeeping workshops (so cool!). With beekeeping hives in their own backyards, they were able to educate friends, neighbors and schools about the importance of bee colonies. With a growing demand, Debra and Bill launched the nonprofit, Planet Bee Foundation!
This foundation was created to inspire a younger generation to be environmental stewards through low-cost beekeeping education and workshops. With a purchase of any honey beauty product, a percentage of sales goes to supporting Planet Bee’s programs. It’s so great to support the bees population, but I also love how this nonprofit gets people outfit and consciously involved with nature. I think that these types of practices are the most effective way to transform the heart to be an environmental activist.
I love all the products but my skin loves honey butter. Thanks for posting this.
