Platform Sandals with Altered Skirt
I bought this skirt for $4 at an OC thrift shop. It was originally a maxi skirt, but I’ve recently become a big fan of midi-length skirts so I cut off half of the fabric and hemmed the end. I paired the piece with my latest obsession, chunky platform sandals.
I bought these cheetah print shoes at a Buffalo Exchange store in Costa Mesa for $15. I saw them, tried them on, and I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to snag something so fun and unique to any type of sandal I have owned before. I probably wouldn’t buy a pair of cheetah print platform sandals at the mall, but the great condition of the sandals combined with the price made me want to give them a try. Good thing I took the chance because I really like them!
The platforms feel like I have a wedge due to the height it gives me, but the sole has no arch so it’s comfortable to walk. I think these are a great example to show that you can find very hip, trendy things at thrift shops! The mod style of the platform with the simple horizontal striped buckles are totally in, and it’s awesome that I was able to find a pair that’s secondhand. Although I love to find vintage pieces, it’s nice to incorporate pieces like these platforms which can give your outfit an updated, youthful life.
I had a beautiful day yesterday which included brunch with friends, a massage, and dinner with my sister. This outfit is so cute, yet so comfy that I wore it to get my massage. The ring I’m wearing was a gift my mom found at a thrift shop in Orange County. I like the unique geometric design and colored accents. I’ve honestly been so pleased with my thrifted finds, I hope this can give you some inspiration to shop secondhand!
those platforms are awesome what a great find!
Thanks Anna! I’m so glad I got them, I think they’re really fun.
Love the way you cut the skirt from a maxi! Love the whole look!
Thank you so much! 🙂
$4 for that adorable skirt? What a steal!
Right? haha, It was a great find!
Traveling around a hot part of the world later this year, tempted to invest in my first ever skirt to keep cool!
You should! I wore a bunch of skirts when I traveled, almost never wore jeans just because they’re so comfortable and breezy.
But for a guy it’s a little harder to pull off! Where did you travel around?
I think a neutral body wrap you tie at the waist wouldn’t look half bad, ha! I backpacked around Europe last summer.
Good idea! I was looking at maxi skirts but they seem tight, how would I avoid a dreaded VPL?! Ah cool, we’re lucky in the UK, we are like a 2 hour flight from anywhere in Europe.
I dunno, that’s on you! A fashion struggle indeed
Thong power?! Wait, what…
gorgeous skirt!
Thanks so much 🙂

Looking great as always. You did an amazing job on that skirt! I’m going to be putting my shopping on hold and pulling out my sewing machine to alter several items that are waiting to be worn.
Have courage,

Thanks Elle! I’ve been doing all my sewing by hand, I’ve been keeping an eye out for a sewing machine. I think I can probably find one secondhand. You should post your alterations on your blog! 🙂

I love the ring. The design looks organic since it reminds me to a beehive. Your work with the skirt is fabulous. I am so into midi length right now, so I totally understand why you decided to customize it. 😉
