Recycled Plastic Bottles Bag by Hamilton Perkins Collection

The days of impromptu weekend trips and stuffing 3 overflowing tote bags with clothes and toiletries are over. And thank god, because it was about time I traveled with some functionality and style! I am so happy to have been introduced to Hamilton Perkins Collection (HPC), a brand that transforms recycled plastic bottles into affordable designer duffle bags!

HPC aims to create a classic travel bag for the modern traveler that has designer quality at an affordable price. To pinpoint the logistics, Hamilton Perkins Collection interviewed a thousand travelers to figure out what style serves best for jetsetters and trendy travelers.

The best aspect of this bag is the mission it serves. In collaboration with workshops and suppliers, Hamilton Perkins Collection is committed to supporting fair wages and sourcing raw materials that divert plastic bottles, save water, add revenue, and create 217 jobs in less developed nations. And let’s rewind a minute – plastic bottles? Yes, which is hands down my favorite part of this bag! How cool is it to carry around something that diverted plastic from entering a landfill? As Sustainable Daisy, I love this bag!

Recycled Plastic Bottles

According to HPC, Americans throw away 35 billion plastic bottles annually and the average American throws away 180 pounds of plastic every year. That’s 5 billion tons of plastic! Like you, that doesn’t sit well with me, and it didn’t for Hamilton either, which inspired his collection of Earth Bags.  

Plastic can take up to one thousand years to degrade. Because of this, Hamilton Perkins Collection partnered with organizations like Thread to turn trash into fashion by using recycled plastic bottles and repurposed billboards as material in their bags!

Details

The bag I’m sporting is the Earth Bag Lite in black. This duffle bag is perfect for me, because it’s lightweight but very spacious. The bag approximately 18” x 10” x 9” with a high quality YKK zipper that hasn’t snagged. It’s the perfect size for me because I often go on weekend trips where I don’t have the need to lug around a bulky suitcase. With this bag, I can toss in my essentials and plop it in my passenger side seat. The bag offers easy traveling with a high quality appearance and effortless function.

Functionality

I like to carry the bag like a backpack, with either strap along my arms. In addition to weekend trips it is a great bag to carry gym clothes in. Since the inner lining is recycled plastic, it is very durable since it can combat spills or messes. It can be easily wiped out with a damp cloth and can even be turned inside out to dry completely.

Another great thing about this bag is that when you are not using it, it can be compacted tightly and fit in a small crevasse such as under your bed. I found this very useful because unlike a suitcase, this bag doesn’t take up a lot of space when it is not in use. Love that! Check out some other cool facts below:
