Striped Long Sleeve from Ember & Aura
This week I want to tell you about Ember & Aura, an ethically-sourced retailer based in Denver, Colorado! This online shop has beautiful gifts, accessories, and apparel like this cozy striped long sleeve!
American Made, and More
I really like Ember & Aura because its owner, Jamie, is super committed to the sustainable and slow fashion movement. She categorizes the items on her site by virtue such as whether a piece is made by an independent artist, is sustainable, hand crafted, small batch, American made, by a female founder, or secondhand. I like this method because you can directly correlate how the piece you buy is ethically made. It also allows you to choose items based on categories that are especially close to your heart! For example, if you’re an independent artist and appreciate the skill and craftsmanship of handmade goods, you can purchase an item based off those attributes.
Jamie is passionate about supporting local American designers and holds a standard that all products sold on Ember & Aura must be either produced in small batches in a sweatshop-free environment, composed of sustainable textiles, designed and constructed by independent artists in the US, or made new again though re-selling or upcycling. I love that!
On Ember & Aura, Jamie wrote a beautiful excerpt to define her style, her customer’s style, and the freedom found in choosing sustainably-sourced fashion.
I whole heartedly relate to the romanticism of eco-friendly fashion because wearing clothing that’s kind to the earth feels good. Also, I think that sustainable fashion radiates notes of love and positivity. I think this message is summarized beautifully, specifically in the last two sentences.
“The Ember woman has a joyful curiosity of the world around her. Fashion isn’t a rigid set of rules and trends to apply to herself on a seasonal basis. She relies on her intuition in all facets of her life, which naturally carries over into what she chooses to wear every day. These decisions are influenced by the outline of trees against the sky, the sound of a brush on canvas, and the way different fabrics respond to her own movements. She recognizes the cyclical nature of life, and knows that even a garment has a life span.”
Organic and Recycled Long sleeve
Another reason I’m a fan of Ember & Aura is the quality of the products. For this review, I had this beautiful Bleu Salt Organic and Recycled Front Keyhole Top sent to me. It’s 70% organic cotton, 15% recycled polyester, and 15% recycled cotton. I’m not totally sure, but I think this may be the first clothing item I’ve had that was made with recycled cotton!
First off, this striped long sleeve is incredibly well made. I wore this top to a family lunch and both my mom and sister told me how much they like it! My sister’s exact words were, “This looks so well-made!” Lol.
It does pay to have quality pieces in your wardrobe because people can tell. As I get older I really appreciate garment pieces that were made with extra thought and craftsmanship.
