Sustainable Sneakers by Baabuk
Never have I gotten so many compliments on my shoes! Baabuk, a sustainable Swiss company reached out and asked if I’d like to review some of their sustainable sneakers – and they are just what my wardrobe has been needing!
I’m on the petite side, so I love to wear sandals that offer a little wedged heel that can left my stature up an inch or two. That being said, it’s often tough to run errands and get shit done in strappy wedges. Plus, wobbling around with blistered feet and tied up toes is definitely not a cute way to get around town. I’ve been needing a shoe that can last some long walks and sudden sprints. I find there’s a certain freedom in wearing comfortable shoes so comfortable I could run in them. Luckily, the perfect pair of kickass fiery red kicks fell into my life at the perfect time.
Natural + Sustainable
These shoes are made with 100% natural wool! The use of wool is a natural fire-retardant and water repellant. Wool is also extremely resilient and flexible due to its cellular structure. It is also seven times stronger than cotton. Another cool thing about Baabuk is that the production of these sneakers is drastically lower than the creation of a synthetic material. The materials and the wooly sneakers themselves are biodegradable.
You all know I have a heart for thrift stores – and shoes are always the first thing I look for. I’ve had amazing luck finding footwear at thrift stores, but it’s a little tough scouting fresh sustainable sneakers. That’s why I love it when brands put so much quality into a piece that it will last a long time and stay with me for years!
These sustainable sneakers are also breathable and help with odor control because wool is a natural antibacterial agent. The fibers absorb moisture so they keep feet dry. I don’t always like the look of socks peaking out from my shoes, so this is a definite plus! The most unique thing about these shoes is the no-tie elastic bungie laces.
A fresh pair of kicks, specifically clean sneakers like these are so in right now. Brushing up on 2018 trends, red is also the color of the season. On this day I let these sustainable sneakers be the star of the show, pairing it with a fire truck red purse and a black and white ensemble. It’s also super cute to pair the shoes with a red lip and ruby nails!
Another cool thing about these sustainable sneakers is that the longer you wear the shoes, the more comfortable they get. I know that these guys will last a long time, which makes me admire how well-made they are. To clean, I like to use a combination of coconut oil and baking soda. I’ve used an abrasive towel or an old toothbrush to buff the sole to keep it bright and white.
PS. Anyone watch Big Little Lies? The location of these photos is where the final episode was filmed!
