Palm Springs OOTD – Thrifted Threads

Palm Springs OOTD – Thrifted Threads

The desert, namely Palm Springs, is one of my spiritual sanctuaries. Whenever I go, I’m stripped down to my roots and feel like the whole-bodied, genuine person I am deep inside.

I can’t really tell you why I feel this way – but it probably has to do with the several camping excursions I did with my family out in Joshua Tree over the years.

Weekend Getaway

Earlier this year I got a new job with an awesome company doing environmental, health, and safety work. Before the plunge into a new chapter of my career, I decided to take a mini vacation – and Palm Springs felt like the right choice.

I packed the car with colorful thrifted outfits, my new camera, sun hats, and one of my best friends, Radhika, as we hit the road with juice and tacos in hand. My friend Rad has been one of my friends since we were twelve years old. She is currently in Jamaica for the Peace Corps and spent a couple weeks in California for her vacation. I was so happy to spend these couple days with her, because we always have such a fun time. In fact, she was my travel buddy when I went to Japan, which was one of the best times of my life!

I booked us a stay at the Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs, which is an Instagram model’s heaven. It’s basically a desert hotel styled from the 1970s, but colored in rainbow paint and cute hipster lawn furnishings.

For this trip I took full advantage of the opportunity to dress extra eclectic – desert people are less judgmental (according to my own preconceptions), and if an outfit is a total fail, it’s fun to test it out in the middle-of-nowhere rather and embody a fake persona for the day, and just see where the vibe takes me (I told you I have fun with fashion!).

Chopped Cropped Top

With that said, I put on a cropped vintage tee that was re-fixed and sold by Furst of a Kind. If you haven’t heard of this shop – you gotta check it out sometime. It’s a sister company of LF. How it works, is that basically Furst of a Kind hires expert vintage shoppers to scout out old thrifted tees, jean jackets, and high-waisted shorts, and chops them up and sews them to give em’ a funky personality. The shop I go to is in Silverlake in Los Angeles. I love the concept but to be honest, it’s overpriced (in my opinion), but the last two times I went they had awesome sales and I was able to pick this top up for around $25.

Olive Jeggings

To balance the cropped top, I paired it with olive jeggings I bought secondhand off thredUP. I had been eyeing these jeggings for a couple weeks – and oddly nobody had snagged them. I decided one day to give em a shot and I’m SO GLAD I did because they look amazing. They completely suck in my body/legs to look extra firm, and overall make the body look fantastic. I was tempted to buy a second pair new, but the company is no longer in business. I feel lucky to have these!

The Wicker Purse

Lastly I held onto a yellow wicker purse I scored at the Assistance League Shop in Fullerton. My mom doesn’t want me to tell anyone about this shop because it’s so awesome – but hey, that’s what Sustainable Daisy is here for! I don’t hide my secret spots. 😉

Wicker bags are so in this summer, so I was happy to buy an inexpensive vintage piece for a fraction of the price! (Literally, wicker bags are $60+! Here’s a similar one).

If there’s one thing I love about sustainable fashion, is the challenge of putting together unique pieces from different phases of life that all have their own special story. When done right – it can look really special and shine on you how special/brave/eclectic you are as well.

XO,

Sustainable Daisy

    1. Thanks so much!! It was so fun staying at the Saguaro – definitely recommend stopping by to snap a few colorful pics.

  1. Those jeggings look great on you and I love the color! Its a shame I don’t have such wonderful thrifty stores in my area, but I’m always looking!
